Born in Spencer, Iowa, Belinda McKenzie Wight has spent most of her life in NC. As a young girl growing up in Raleigh, daytrips to the pottery-rich areas of North Carolina were common, which made her a pottery lover for life. Then four years ago, she decided to try her hand at making her own pottery, and playing with clay has been a passion of hers ever since. Through classes at Cary’s Jordan Hall Arts Center, Belinda has polished her skills, leading her to start BMW Clayworks in 2004 to market her favorite ceramic creations.
Belinda produces both decorative and functional pieces, ranging from bowls and platters to smaller items such as business card holders, wall hangings, pendants for necklaces and bookmarks, and ornaments of angels and nativity scenes. A former biology teacher, Belinda loves the natural, earthy hues of golds, greens, blues and browns and incorporates them into her work. Her love of nature is also reflected in the images of leaves, flowers, suns and trees found in her pieces.
